Gehenna saw the light of day already back in 1993 and are one of the original founders of true Norwegian Black Metal. With 7 albums and 2 EPs on their soul scarred conscience, they have made a profound impact on today’s black metal scene. Gehenna has explored the boundaries of the genre but always stayed true, no doubt one of the main reasons for their cult-like status.

Released one year after their demo Black Seared Heart, it was First Spell that put GEHENNA on the map for real.

Originally released in 1994 by Metalion's legendary label ‘Head Not Found’, the EP shows a band – even though only founded 1 year prior – already on top of their game. Each of the 5 tracks is a masterpiece in its own right. “The Shivering Voice Of The Ghost” or “Unearthly Loose Palace” – can it get more sombre than that?

Macabre and utterly dark, the highly original and memorable tracks are considerably enhanced by keyboard player extraordinaire Sarcana. First Spell is one of the very best EPs ever done in Norway and belongs in every self-respecting Black Metal fans collection.

The Darkness Shall Rise (LP – Black) edition was remastered by Patrick W. Engel at the Temple of Disharmony to ensure the best possible sound for this timeless Black Metal classic. Pressed on a single LP, containing only the original tracks from First Spell. Comes with a 16-page 12” booklet including an in-depth interview with all 5 original band members and many never seen before pictures. Includes an A2 poster and a download-code for Bandcamp. Limited edition of 300 copies.

The Indie Records (2LP – Clear with red splatter) edition of this release contains First Spell and 9 bonus tracks on coloured vinyl over a gatefold 2LP package.
