We welcome all manner of second hand CDs, vinyl and tapes in very good or better condition. We are happy to offer better rates for store credit vs cash. There are a few legal boxes we need to tick in the process of buying second hand items from the public. For more information or to discuss, give us a call on 03 9191 4764.

Are you hiring?

Not at the moment sorry! Our shop is still quite new.

Will you stock my band / label / zine?

We're happy to offer consignment for all local artists whose material fits within the kind of work we stock. Just get in touch or bring some copies into the store with you and we can get you set up / let you know how it works.

My band wants to play an in-store in your shop!

We host noisy events like in-stores on Sundays as free, all ages, matinee style events. If you're interested in booking or playing a show in-store reach out to us via email.

I want to exhibit my art in your shop / I'm wanting to curate an art event in your store, who do I speak to?

If you have a clear and defined vision about what you want to present we'd love to hear from you, email us. Please share a bio, examples of your work and an exhibition outline. Our exhibitions typically rotate monthly, but we're able to be flexible if something is a perfect fit.

Do you have the new Taylor Swift album?

Unless Taylor has just put out a harsh noise or free jazz record our answer is likely no. We specialise in the noisy, extreme, loud, soft, heavy, quiet and outside end of all things across the genre spectrum.

Can you get [title / merch] in for me?

Most likely yes! Special orders can take time to get through if they're not available through one of our regular channels, but we can often find a way. Your best bet is to call the store on 03 9191 4764 and speak to us, or fill in our special order enquiry form.

How long will it take to receive my order?

We process and ship records daily. Preparing your order for shipment may occasionally take longer during high volume periods, and if you place an order on a weekend or public holiday this won't ship until the next business day.

During checkout, you'll have the option to select a postage service. Express offers next business day delivery (if placed before cut-off) to metropolitan areas within Australia. Parcel Post is a little cheaper, and will generally take a little longer to arrive. If you live locally, the Parcel Post option will typically arrive as quickly as Express (outside of peak holiday periods).

You'll receive an update with a tracking number via email as soon as your order has been processed in our system.

How do preorders work?

When you place a preorder you are purchasing an item that is on order with our suppliers but hasn't yet arrived to us, typically because it has not yet been released and is still being manufactured by the label (e.g., an album ahead of it's release date). If you are ordering a preorder item with other in-stock items, your order will not ship until all items are in stock. Please keep this in mind when placing your order, and consider placing separate orders if you'd like to receive in-stock items immediately.

Preorder ETAs

When listing preorder type items we use the best information we have at the time to provide an approximate arrival date, e.g., the release date, but please keep in mind that these arrival times are subject to change due to manufacturing delays and the nature of importing goods to Australia.

You'll receive a shipping or pickup ready notification as soon as your item is physically in hand and ready to ship or pickup.

Refund / exchange policy

Refunds and replacements are only available for genuinely faulty products, such as a vinyl production error [i.e., it doesn't play] or if we've accidentally sent you the wrong item.

Damage to replaceable/consumable type items like cassette and CD jewel cases are not considered a product fault. We do our best to protect the packages we send. LPs are boxed in brand new purpose built mailers with added cardboard stiffeners.

If there is a problem with your order we'll do our best to solve it. Please call the store on 03 9191 4764 or reach out to us via email!

Lost / returned packages

All packages are sent with tracking. In the rare event you do lose a package or are having trouble tracing it, please contact us so we can follow up.

If a parcel goes undelivered, it will normally be returned to us by economy mail which can take up to 90 days internationally. If you would like to pay for us to resend the item once it's returned to us, please get in touch.

Blacksound Records is not responsible for lost packages.

Prohibited titles

It is an offence punishable by a $23,000 fine or 12 months in prison (or both) to stock material by artists who prominently and outwardly feature hate symbols or other subject material that is prohibited by law. We cannot and do not buy or sell these items and will not order these items for you.

Other events in the shop

We've held listening parties, discourse events, workshops and are open to holding all sorts of public events if it fits within our ethos. We play in bands, organise shows and attend local events ourselves, and we like to support our local community. If you've got a cool idea for something you want to present within the shop, please get in touch to discuss.
